Not So Lone Ranger

My 12 year old  nephew Aaron posted this on Facebook:
Why does The Lone Ranger have a sidekick? Shouldn't the fact that his name has "lone" in it imply that he should be by himself?
I don't know if he thought of that himself or saw it somewhere and reposted it. Either way, I couldn't be more proud. He's a skeptical little nerd in the making. I've taught him well.

  1. I'm not an expert on the Lone Ranger but I think the point was that Texas Rangers operate in groups. LR was the sole survivor of a massacre, and as such, he was the Lone Ranger. It wouldn't matter how many people he was surrounded by, as long as the others weren't Rangers then he would be the Lone Ranger in the crowd.

But yeah, overall the name is an apparent clinker, given that he has such as high-profile sidekick. Kudos to your nephew for spotting that.

  2. That sounds about right. I was never a huge LR fan, and vaguely recall watching reruns of the TV show when I was a kid.

I just hope this new movie is better than the one they made in the 1980s-- the one where the actor playing the Lone Ranger was so bad that they had to hire another actor to dub all his dialog.
