The Walking Dead Season 2, Episode 2: Bloodletting

Looks like this week we got a slower character building episode in lieu of the usual zombie action. A result of the rumored budget cuts, perhaps?

Spoilers!

• We finally get to see Herschel's farm, which was a big storyline in the comic. Herschel seems like a wise and benevolent patriarch, but if he's anything like the comic version, he's got a nasty secret hidden inside his barn. I'm betting we find out what it is sometime around the mid-season break.

• Little by little I'm growing to like Shane. Reading the comic before seeing the show prejudiced me against him, but TV Shane is slowly starting to win me over.

• I'm still not caring much for TV Lori. Her son's bleeding to death in the middle of nowhere, and she's getting picky because the only person around with any medical training whatsoever is a veterinarian? Granted it's not an ideal situation, but where else is she going to take him?

• Keep an eye on Herschel's daughter Maggie. She'll soon become an important person in Glen's life.

• We find out that T-Dog's real name is Theodore. You know, on a show like this, that's the sort of thing you find out right before... ah, never mind.

• We got a LOST-style flashback this week. The only thing missing was the flashback "whooosh" sound effect.

• Herschel must have some magic fingers. He pokes around at Carl's belly for a few seconds and can somehow tell that the bullet split into six fragments. And without an x-ray machine yet!

• Apparently some zombies are more energetic than others. Last week the zombie herd shuffled slowly by, but this week they were chasing after Shane and Otis like cross country runners!

• Daryl IS the new Sawyer! He was carrying around his own personal pharmacy, just like Sawyer did in the early years of LOST. Was that blue stuff in his bag really Meth?

  1. Kirkman has said that the blue meth was an Easter Egg for Breaking Bad fans. Don't know if you watch that, but a special blue meth features very prominently.

  2. Ah, that makes sense. I've not seen BB, but I know of it.

I live in the Meth capital of the world, but fortunately I don't know anything about it.

  3. Ah, I got beat to it - the meth in Breaking Bad is blue. Breaking Bad is very good, also. Good on AMC to bust out some really, if anything, entertaining television.

  4. As always, you wrapped up the episode perfectly. I didn't hear about the budget cuts, that can't be good. My favorite scenes include zombies and near death experiences. They make me hold my breath and peek through my fingers. I hope we still get plenty of that. Kudos to the make up people that make the zombies look so real and absolutely terrifying. I would like to know what is in the barn......Daryl does have a Sawyer-ness to him. Next thing ya know he will be walking around in lady glasses that he scored off a zombie....a zombie that shoud NOT be allowed to run.

  5. Dawn:

I read something online about budget cuts, so you know if it's on the internet, it's got to be true, right? Walking Dead is AMC's #1 show and their highest rated show ever, so it makes no sense to demand budget cuts. But then when has big business ever made sense?
